History of Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Kamrup. Guwahati
The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate with the office was established in the year 1975 and the first judicial officer to become the Chief Judicial Magistrate was P. C. Borthakur. The records available show that the Chief Judicial Magistrate court started functioning in the year 1964 headed by Addl. District Magistrate(J) before bifurcation of judiciary from executive.
History of Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate Court, Rangia
Initially the Court of the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate. Rangia, started as the court of the Judicial Magistrate, 1st Class, Rangia on October 1981 and Shri R. N. Saikia was the first Judicial Magistrate, 1st Class of the Rangia court. Later on the same 1st Class Magistrate's court was upgraded to the court of the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate, Rangia on 28-02-1986 and Mr. R. N. Deb was the 1st Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate of the Rangia Court.
Previously the court was situated and functioning in the building of Block Office, Rangia and the court was shifted to the court building of S.D.O.(C), Rangia during April 1994 and since then the Court of the Sub-Divisional Judicial /Magistrate, Rangia is functioning in the present location at the building of the S.D.O.(C), Rangia.

Presently it is proposed to construct the new court building near the Rangia Circle Office and the construction is started and expected to be completed with 1 & half years, or so.
History of Family Court, Kamrup, Guwahati.
The family court is established U/S 3 of the Family Court Act, 1984 by the State Govt. in the Kamrup District on 21st March, 1992 with officer Sri P.K. Deb, Principal Judge, to head of the organization. The State Govt. as soon as framed rules in conseclation with the Hon'ble High Court on 20th December, 1990.
